We shuttle from and back to Rock Gap (Nobo mile 105.9, 13 miles from the hostel) or Winding Stair Gap (Nobo mile 109.6 and Sobo mile 2088.9, 11 miles from the hostel) at set daily times. 

During Nobo hiker season, we also work in conjunction with Macon County transit to bring in and return hikers to Rock and Winding Stair Gaps.

It is an easy hitch from Winding Stair, and we’re happy to connect folks with local area shuttle drivers.

We recommend making your reservation 1-4 days before your arrival in Franklin. All stays are by reservation only.

From March 1st to April 15th we do not accept reservations further than 4 days prior to arrival during the thru-hiker season.

During the “bubble” in late March, it’s a good idea to make your reservation as you’re leaving your last resupply to ensure you get a spot during the busy season.

The Grove has limited space and availability for vehicles but does accept for parking with a waiver for up to 7 days for a daily fee of $5. Please text us at 828-346-7657 in advance to make your reservation.

Outside of our scheduled courtesy pick-ups, we do not drive to other access points.

We are, though, happy to host you as guests while you traverse these miles in daily sections with shuttle drivers picking you up in the morning (no later than 9AM) and dropping you back off in the evening.

Registered service animals with documentation are welcome to stay in the upstairs private suite only. Animals are not allowed in the hostel’s common areas.

The Grove is our home, which also happens to be a hostel. Please be mindful of other guests when staying with us. We want all the guests in our home to have a restful stay, so we have policies that include: quiet hours from 9:30pm-6:30am, no drugs or alcohol allowed on the property, respectful use of hostel space, and others.
